Our Story Begins Here

❊ About Us

Creating Calm.
One Child at a Time.

Creating Calm Classrooms exists because learning doesn’t happen in a stressed nervous system.

Classrooms today are carrying more noise, more behavior, and more invisible stress than ever before — for students and teachers. Yet most educational approaches still ask children to self-regulate without ever teaching them how regulation actually works in the body.

Creating Calm Classrooms bridges that gap.

We focus on nervous system literacy: helping educators and students understand how stress shows up physically, how regulation happens from the body up, and how hands-on, sensory experiences can restore capacity for learning.

Our signature program, Mud Makers, uses clay as an embodied regulation tool. Clay offers resistance, rhythm, and deep sensory feedback — exactly the kind of input the nervous system needs to organize itself. Through guided, hands-on experiences, students learn how to discharge stress, settle their bodies, and re-engage with learning in ways that are practical, accessible, and developmentally appropriate.

We offer a classroom-integrated approach to regulation that meets students where they are — without requiring them to explain, perform, or try harder.

Creating Calm Classrooms was founded by Laura, a former classroom teacher who spent years witnessing how stress, ADHD, and dysregulation quietly shape learning outcomes. What stood out was a lack of tools that worked at the nervous system level. Clay and movement became the bridge: tangible, nonverbal supports that give every student a way in, regardless of language, ability, or background.

Today, Creating Calm Classrooms partners with educators and schools to bring embodied, nervous system–informed practices into real classrooms — supporting regulation, focus, and connection where learning actually happens.

Because when the nervous system feels supported, learning doesn’t have to be forced.

Meet the Teacher Behind the Calm

After 20 years of teaching, I saw the same challenge again and again: kids struggling to focus, regulate, and express themselves — and teachers left without real tools to help. I created Creating Calm Classrooms™ to change that. By blending clay, movement, and mindfulness, I give students (and teachers) practical ways to bring calm, focus, and connection into every classroom.

Hi, I’m Laura, the founder of Creating Calm Classrooms™ After more than 20 years in education, I noticed the same struggle in every school: students overwhelmed by emotions, attention stretched thin, and teachers without practical tools to help.

I created Creating Calm Classrooms™ to change that. By blending clay, movement, and mindful body-based practices, I give teachers and students simple, science-backed ways to build calm, focus, and confidence.

Because every child deserves to feel seen, supported, and capable — and every teacher deserves strategies that actually work.
