Mud Makers brings the clay studio experience directly to your school! Students slow down, get their hands messy and transform a lump of clay into something entirely their own, all while exploring the curriculum through an immersive, sensory rich, creative experience. Students build skills across multiple areas such as project planning, design, form, engineering.
What is Mud Makers?

Our workshops are available for students in Kindergarten all the way to Grade 8. Many projects can be scaled in scope and sequence to meet the needs of our youngest and oldest learners.

Access to a sink is preferred, but not required. On the booking form just let us know where the closest water source is and we will make any adjustments as needed.

Our workshops typically run 75-90 minutes in length. Smaller groups with adult support tend to run faster than larger groups. Timing is dependent on the group. We will work with teachers to create the best schedule!

We use a non-toxic self-hardening clay. It’s as close to a typical stoneware that we can get without needing a kiln!

Each workshop meets several curriculum expectations across grade levels from Language, Visual Arts, Mathematics, and Science. We also align closely with many schools improvement plans, and board goals for school community, culture and mental health and well-being.

Projects are typically dry within 72 hours, but can vary due to humidity levels.

Great question! Our Studio Takeover model sets up in your library or learning commons space for one or more days. It’s a great way to serve a division or the entire school. In our single class bookings, we come for just one class and work in the classroom. There is a 300+ HST minimum booking for single sessions so we encourage teachers to book back-to-back sessions with a grade like partner.

Mud Makers is an in-school program created by an Ontario Certified Teacher with 15 years of classroom experience and a background in neuroarts, regulation, arts-based learning and ceramics.
